Ho Hum

That's how I'm feeling these days. The winter blahs.

Colin got his first "professional" hair cut a few weekends ago, as opposed to the at-home buzz cut we gave him the day before his birthday. He was sporting a no-business-all party, mop-headed mullet.
He hated it. We went to Kids' Hair on a Saturday morning. The place was swarming with kids, all crowded into a tiny "lobby" (aka carpet). He didn't get enough of a "warm-up" time to see what the place was all about, which resulted in this:
After stroking my hair for a little while, he calmed to this, still holding on to me:
And then to this:
I asked for a little boy hair cut.
I thought it would be longer in the back. Oh well...at least the mullet is gone.

We also tried sledding. Colin giggled on his first trip down, and the two subsequent trips were, apparently, less fun because after three times down the hill, he was done. I, however, could've gone down many, many more times.
We've been hot and cold about potty training, but now I think Colin might be ready to go at it with the help of my good friends M & M. On occasion I ask him if he wants to go sit on his Thomas potty and get a treat. He usually says yes and sits and actually makes himself pee every single time. Sitting = 1 m&m, pee = 2, poo = 3 (when we get there...) I was going to wait until spring break and go at potty training full speed ahead, but I think maybe we'll take a slower approach until then. Sandy is on board to help out as well! The sooner we're done with diapers the better! Our BumGeniuses are wearing out and I'm so sick of diaper rash (due to teething...).

Not much else is new, sadly. The kids at school are absolutely nutso. Even my good kids are a little wonky these days. Cabin fever, perhaps. Let the countdown to spring break begin :) 43 days to go...

Obstacles

After I was over the flu, I got an awesome cough complete with phlegm balls. I've had it for a few weeks now, but today I thought I should get back on the treadmill and get back to training. Stephie and I are officially canoeing/biking/running the Root River Triathlon in May. With iPod in hand and Asics tied, I jumped up on the treadmill and boy did it feel good to be there! I was walking my warm up and started coughing to the point where I had to stop to get the phlegm ball loosened and out. I hopped up on the treadmill again, and within 30 seconds I felt a chunk in my throat. I ran to the bathroom and gagged.

Apparently I'm not ready to start running again. Frustrating.

Videos!!!

Here is a clip of Colin reading Yummy YUCKY by Leslie Patricielli about things that are yummy (eggs) and things that are yucky (earwax). We have another book she wrote called No NO Yes YES, which is why Colin says "no" a lot. I captioned it for you so you know what he's saying.

This long-distance request and dedication goes out to my dear friend Kristin who is a sucker for bubble wrap:

Family Flu

This won't be long because my eyes are still not working quite right.

After Colin got the flu and stayed home on Wednesday, Kevin got it and stayed home Friday. I went about my weekend plans hanging out with my girlyfriends, figuring I'd be getting it on Sunday. I was right. I wasn't feeling too great on my drive home. As soon as I walked in the door, I was down for the count. I stayed home from work today because I was so dang tired from not getting any sleep last night.

Now let's hope this is the end of it and it doesn't start all over again.

The Flu Bug has hit (PG-rated vomit mentioned)

We put Colin to bed last night and we could tell he was tired. I heard him coughing so I went in his room to check on him and he had thrown up. I scooped him up, stripped him down, and cleaned him up while Kevin took care of his bedding.

Never in my life would I have thought I'd ever watch a Monster Truck race (is that what they are called?!) on TV, but Colin's a boy who loves his trucks! As I was flipping through the channels with a sick little boy cuddled on my lap, I came across the Speed channel which featured them. We watched while Kevin finished cleaning up Colin's bed.

Then I took him back to his room and rocked him. The rocking was too much (I realized this too late) and he started swallowing hard so I ran him to the bathroom so he could throw up some more.

After watching more monster trucks, I put him back in bed and 10 minutes later he started coughing again. We caught him in time and managed to keep him and his bed and everything else clean.

He went back to sleep without a problem and slept through the night.

We got a call from Sandy this morning saying she was also sick with the flu so daycare was closed. That was fine with us because we had already made arrangements for Kevin's mom to come over and for me to take the afternoon off.

He threw up again this morning after a bite of toast and that was the last time (thank God!).

He took a 4 hour nap today until I woke him up at 3:40 and went to bed easily tonight at his normal time. Hopefully since he's sleeping a lot he's fighting off the remaining bug.

Now let's hope and pray Kevin and I don't get the bug!

Happy New Year!

We "celebrated" with the east coast and went to bed at 11, as per our uge. The very first day of the new year was spent mostly at home, although I did venture out to purchase some curtains for our bedroom. The string on the blinds broke, so we decided to go the curtain route instead. Thank you, Christmas money!

Here's my version of a 2010 rundown, choosing only the most memorable of happenings and forgoing most of the posts that detailed someone being sick (there were quite a few!). Click if you want more details.
January-R.I.P. Tucker
February-General Happenings of C (aka nothing too important happened)
March-He walks!
April-ZOMG He's 1!?:):(
May-First Twins Game
June-Start to Kick Debt's @$$
July-Loss of Kev's Gma
August-I get my butt off the couch and run
September-It's a tie->First 5K & Hospital Stay
October-The start of the word explosion
November-Adios, Nukky!
December-Blizzard

I have some resolutions I'd like to officially record right here for all to see. All of these are quite manageable and I do expect to be able to accomplish them! Well, #3 is going to be a challenge.
1. Run/"do" 3 races. One I have in mind is the Root River Triathlon, which includes 6.5 miles of canoeing instead of swimming. Also, 8 miles of biking and a 3 mile run.
2. Pay off a large chunk of debt. I'd like to say half of what we owe. Seems like a lofty goal, but perhaps we can do it barring no financial obstacles getting in our way.
3. Leave work at the end of the day with a clean(er) desk. The least I can do is put the papers in one nice, neat stack, right? Really, I'm going to try hard to get better at this.
4. Get Colin potty trained for good (I know, I keep saying that. 2011 is the year baby!).
5. Re-start "date nights" on the 7th(ish) of every month. Kev and I have been slacking. With a fresh batch of gift cards in-hand, we're ready!

Cheers to 2011! May it be full of happiness, friends, family, and completed resolutions.
